JC’s Top Rope Report: Way Too Early Wrestlemania 35 Predictions

I do this every year. Usually I try to do this right after Wrestlemania. But what does a couple weeks difference make? This exercise is strictly for fun. How right am I when I do my first round of predictions? Lets look at what I predicted after Wrestlemania last year:

-Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman vs The Broken Hardyz

-Randy Orton vs Samoa Joe

-Finn Balor vs Dean Ambrose

-Kurt Angle vs Kevin Owens

-John Cena vs Roman Reigns

-AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura

-Brock Lesnar vs Seth Rollins

Hey, I got one right! Can I do better than that this year? Lets find out!

Smackdown Women’s Championship: Asuka (c) vs Becky Lynch

-Becky has busted her tail in the WWE and has very little to show for it so far. I really hope that changes this year and she gets her Wrestlemania moment beating Asuka here.

Randy Orton vs Samoa Joe

-I have stuck with this match for my first round of predictions the last two years and I will stick with it again here. There is so much talent on Smackdown Live that it can be easy to keep these two apart all year. Plus, I think Randy Orton is due for a one of his usual few months off he’s earned. It can be built as simple as Joe eliminating Orton from the Rumble.

Bobby Lashley vs Braun Strowman

-My gut tells me this match happens before Wrestlemania. But this is my booking so it doesn’t. At some point in 2018, Braun Strowman will be Universal Champion. He is the most over guy on the RAW roster. I’d have Braun win the Title around SummerSlam. He can have a handful of successful defenses until he loses it going into the Rumble, and it is because Bobby Lashley costs him the match. Feud set.

Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match: Kevin Owens (c) vs Sami Zayn vs Drew McIntyre vs Baron Corbin vs Bobby Roode vs Elias

-Here is your “get everybody on the card” match. I’m not a fan of these but it is a reality in the WWE world.

United States Championship: Andrade “Cien” Almas (c) vs Jeff Hardy

-I’m personally really high on Almas. I almost put him in the WWE Title match but I decided to switch it at the last second. I think Almas and Vega are going to be stars on the main roster and if they aren’t in a main event next year, I can definitely see it happening two years from now.

Daniel Bryan vs Shinsuke Nakamura

-You don’t think the WWE will hold off on this match? I think they will. I mean they have Daniel Bryan feuding with Big freaking Cass right now. Let them do that for a month or two, move on to the Miz feud heading into SummerSlam, and then let these two start to interact come fall time. This isn’t for the WWE Title, but there is no reason again a feud like this can’t be built up to a blood feud. And if Nakamura keeps things up, he can make that happen.

Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose

-The Shield Triple Threat match that everyone thought might happen a few years ago happens here. Yeah it happened at Money in the Bank, but that didn’t feel like a big deal. Make the Wrestlemania match feel like a big deal. It is still a match the fans want to see on the big stage and I think it can happen here.

WWE Championship: AJ Styles (c) vs Finn Balor

-Maybe by next year’s Wrestlemania, Vince McMahon will finally realize that Finn Balor is over and give him the main event push that he deserves. In this scenario, I’m having Balor win the Royal Rumble and moving over to Smackdown to challenge AJ Styles. Two former leaders of the Bullet Club going head to head. And can you imagine what might be if Kenny Omega showed up on the Smackdown after Wrestlemania to confront both men after?

RAW Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair (c) vs Ronda Rousey

-I think this match happens. And I think it main events too. I’m okay with that, assuming it is built the right way. Rousey is a huge star that the fans love. How do we get Charlotte over to RAW? Well that would be with the Money in the Bank contract. Charlotte wins that and at the Royal Rumble she cashes in on the RAW Women’s Champion Bayley and wins the Title. Then come the Rumble, Charlotte comes out and causes Ronda Rousey to get eliminated. As Charlotte walks up the ramp, she meets Stephanie McMahon and the two shake hands, showing their alliance. Steph then throws everything in front of Ronda possible but she still pulls it off and faces Charlotte at Mania.

Throw in a couple of Tag Title matches, both battle royals and something else and you are set.

And yes, there is no Brock Lesnar, Undertaker, John Cena or Triple H. Why? Because it is time for the WWE to move on from them. The crowd is beyond caring about Brock. The Undertaker clearly can’t wrestle anymore. There is no one new for Triple H to job to. And as far as Cena, he’s not needed to sell the Wrestlemania brand. Let the current roster be the selling point this year.

I’ll be back after SummerSlam for my next round of predictions.

Until Next Time,

Justin C
