WWE NXT 10.31.18 Highlights w/ The Chairman

It’s been awhile since we’ve covered NXT here at HTC Wrestling, so I’m going to take this time to go over what’s happening on Wednesday nights. So here is a quick recap of NXT from this past week.

War Games is Upon Us

NXT War Games is returning Saturday November 17, 2018 before Survivor Series. Last year the War Games match returned and we’re getting another one this year. The Undisputed Era were victorious against The Authors of Pain w/ Roderick Strong and Sanity last year. Fast forward a year and Roderick Strong is now part of the Undisputed Era and will go into war alongside Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, and a returning Bobby Fish to take on the team of Ricochet, Pete Dunne, and the War Raiders Hanson and Rowe. All four of these individuals have had problems with the Undisputed Era for quite some time. War Raiders have been chasing the NXT Tag Team Championship, but every time they get close the Undisputed Era always sneaks away still the champions by intentioning getting disqualified.

William Regal booked a main event caliber match this week between the War Raiders against Adam Cole and Bobby Fish. That match never took place however. The Undisputed Era were cutting a pre match promo backstage and the War Raiders got a jump on them. All over the backstage area the Undisputed Era were getting beatdown due to the surprise attack from Hanson and Rowe. The numbers game however caught up to the War Raiders until Ricochet showed up for the assist. Eventually the brawl made it to ringside and that’s when Pete Dunne got involved. Regal then came out and made the War Games match official between the eight superstars. This has been a fantastic rivalry and this War Games match is going to be amazing.

Velveteen Gets His Dream Match

Another match was made official for NXT War Games. A number of contenders wanted the right to challenge Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship at War Games. William Regal made the announcement that it would be the Velveteen Dream that would get the right to challenge Ciampa. As a huge fan of Dream, I’m more than ecstatic for this match. I can’t wait to see the build for this one. Lars Sullivan aka another generic big man wasn’t thrilled at all with the decision and went on a rampage backstage. Next week Dream will face Sullivan in a one on one match. Sullivan of course vows to make sure Dream doesn’t make it to War Games and he’s going to take his spot. Should be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Aleister Black Promises Johnny Gargano’s Career Will Fade to Black

The third match announced for War Games will be Aleister Black taking on Johnny Gargano. Last week the world learned that Gargano was the one behind the attack that took Black out of action. Aleister was in search of Johnny Wrestling and confronted his wife Candice LaRae in the ring after she confronted Nikki Cross. Johnny of course wasn’t in the arena and Black vowed to end Johnny Gargano’s career to her and later William Regal once he made the match for War Games official.

The King of Bros Makes His NXT Arrival

Matt Riddle made his televised NXT in ring debut as well this week. I have never seen Riddle wrestle before, but I’ve heard lots of good things about him. Sure enough I was impressed by what I’ve seen in his debut match against Luke Menzies and I’m looking forward to seeing more of Matt Riddle. With his MMA background and submission arsenal, I can already tell this will be one wrestler I want to watch every chance he’s on.

Overall this episode of NXT stood out more for the build to War Games and Matt Riddle’s debut more than anything else. There was a solid match between Nikki Cross and Mercedes Martinez to kick off the show and some tag team matches as well proving why NXT has a solid tag team division unlike the main roster. With that being said, for my latest thoughts follow my Twitter @ChairmanSV and thanks for reading.
