AEW Dynamite Recap 12.11.19 w/Justin C

So I was away from the TV for the first two minutes and apparently Jon Moxley won a squash match against Alex Reynolds. The Inner Circle immediately came out after the match. Jericho talked about how Moxley asked him for advise when he first broke into the business. And how Moxley came to him when he was trying to get into AEW. Jericho said he wasn’t thrilled with how Moxley repaid him by attacking him at Double or Nothing. But Jericho said that it just showed that Moxley was still the tough asshole he knew. But then Jericho tried convincing Moxley to join the Inner Circle. Jericho told Moxley to think it over and take some time to talk to his lovely wife and mother over the holidays and to come back and give them his answer.

The Butcher and The Blade defeated Cody and QT Marshall

The Butcher and The Blade are from my local Indy in Buffalo. So it is cool to see them on the big stage. Also it is nice to see Allie in full leather. So a win/win. I’m not the biggest fan of Cody getting a full on Triple H entrance every show.

The match went exactly like you would expect. Marshall got worked over, hot tag to Cody. A couple of hope spots for Marshall where it looked like he might get the win. But in the end Cody gets taken out and the Butcher and the Blade get the win. Match was fine. The crowd was fully engaged and that is always a plus with these things.

After the match Darby Allin came out and helped Cody up, then left. Apparently Cody said he has no friends in AEW and this signaled Allin might be one. His brother doesn’t count as a friend?

MJF came out with Wardlow. Wardlow just looks like a jacked up Marty Scurll. Or did Scurll just put on a bunch of muscle? MJF took out a cord guy for making him trip last week. MJF rips on Cody and calls him fake. He says he doesn’t need any of the stuff Cody offered him last week. He just needs Cody to suffer. MJF says the only thing real about Cody is his lisp and then makes fun of it. MJF is willing to fight Cody but he has certain stipulations. But he isn’t going to give those away in Redneck Texas. He will give them to Cody in Jacksonville. So we have to wait until January 1 to get just the stipulations? Okay then.

Dark Order tried to recruit jobber Alex Reynolds via one of those videos playing in his hotel room.

Big Swole defeated Emi Sakura

I hate to be someone that says “that really sucked.” But this match really sucked. It felt like they were moving in slow motion throughout the entire match. They tried doing a spot with Sakura’s mic stand but it didn’t click. These two just didn’t seem to mesh well together.

PAC demands his rubber match with Kenny Omega or he won’t be held responsible for what happens next.

Kenny Omega and Hangman Page defeated Kip Sabian and Shawn Spears

Okay so where to start. Earlier this year Kenny Omega main evented Wrestle Kingdom. Now he is in tag matches with undercard guys. Which is fine. But the only way Omega won was because Spears left to go fight Joey Janela on the stage. Omega isn’t coming off anywhere close to the major star he once was. If you are new to AEW and knew nothing about his New Japan run you would be amazed to see what he accomplished in the world of pro wrestling so far. Oh and Joey Janela having Tully Blanchard tied up on stage had zero reaction. That’s not good. Hangman Page tagged himself in to hit the Buckshot Lariat for the win. At least they are still teasing tension with Page and the Elite. But Omega’s star is taking a giant hit right now.

Brandi Rhodes does a Nightmare Family promo. Apparently they have his big bald guy they didn’t reveal.

Luchasaurus defeated Sammy Guevara

Luchasaurus won a basic match. Jericho and Hager came down after. Jungle Boy went after Jericho then did a pin on Jericho with Stunt counting the pin. Jericho was furious after screaming it didn’t count.

The Young Bucks defeated Santana and Ortiz in a Texas Street Fight

Santana, Ortiz and Sammy Guevara jumped The Young Bucks during their entrance. Brandon Cutler tried making a save but went through the stage. The Bucks fought back and took out Guevara with a Meltzer Driver. Matt then hit a swanton off one of the tunnels through a table. They fought back to the ring. Matt put on a Cowboys helmet to block shots. Too bad wearing a Cowboys helmet makes them total jobbers. Lots of brawling. Nick hits a 450 splash onto a garbage can but Hager pulls out the ref. Hager ducks a kick and the ref eats it. Dustin Rhodes comes out and fights off Hager. There’s no ref but eventually Aubrey Edwards comes out. Santana and Ortiz hit the Street Sweeper but Nick pulls out Aubrey. Santana takes a really weird spot to go through a table. Ortiz eats a double kick, then gets a chair super kicked into his face. A Meltzer Driver finishes it off. Match was good. I’m kind of surprised the Bucks won, but similar to Kenny Omega, they need to come off as stars more. Really wasn’t keen on the unnecessary ref bumps.

Until Next Time,
