Dream Matches: Tetsuya Naito vs Macho Man Randy Savage

Welcome to another one of our new features on Hot Tag Wrestling, DREAM MATCHES!

So what is this all about? Well, every week we will pit two wrestlers who have never meet before one-on-one against each other. I’ll talk about each man’s accomplishments and what a potential match between the two wrestlers would look like. After that we will put a poll up on our Twitter page and let the fans pick the winner!

Today’s matchup pits current IWGP Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Natio against 6 time heavyweight Champion Macho Man Randy Savage!

Tetsuya Naito

Tetsuya Naito has some of the most die hard fans in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Fans of Naito had been waiting for him to main event Wrestle Kingdom again and get back to the top of the mountain in NJPW. Well, that finally happened this year when Naito main evented the second night of Wrestle Kingdom and became the first ever double Champion in the history of New Japan. Naito is still the current holder of both Titles. He is also the leader of Los Ingobernables de Japon and is considered to have one of the best characters in the world of pro wrestling.

“Macho Man” Randy Savage

Randy Savage is one of the most iconic wrestlers in the history of pro wrestling. If you didn’t know him because of his wrestling, you knew him from the Slim Jim commercials of the 90s. Savage is a 2 time WWF Champion, 4 time WCW Champion, and a former Intercontinental Champion. Savage is known for having some of the best matches of his era. I’d argue he got the best matches out of Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan and others during his time. Savage’s off the wall promos are quotable everywhere. And of course, we all know his relationship with Elizabeth on screen is one of the best ever. Who doesn’t tear up a bit watching Wrestlemania 7?

WHY WE WANT TO SEE THIS MATCH

It is quite simple for me. It’s the Madness vs Tranquilo. Savage’s wrestling personality is that of a loose cannon. We saw that in his feud with Hulk Hogan, we saw that throughout his promos and we saw it all the way up to the end in WCW. Naito, meanwhile, does not let anything get to him in the ring. How will his calm, laid back attitude affect Savage throughout the match? Will Savage be thrown off his game with Naito’s taunts? This would quite possibly be the most opposite ends of the spectrum match we will see!
