Sami Zayn Stripped Of Intercontinental Championship

It was announced on WWE Backstage last night that Sami Zayn has been stripped of the Intercontinental Championship. Here is the story from WWE.com:

“With Sami Zayn currently unable to defend the Intercontinental Championship, it was revealed on WWE Backstage on FS1 that the title has been declared vacant.

A tournament will begin this Friday night on SmackDown to crown a new champion. Stay with WWE’s digital and social channels for more on this developing story. “

JC’s Take: Sami Zayn is one of the wrestlers who has not been around since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic. You can’t take issue with him not showing up. Zayn has not been mentioned on TV. And even though his contract goes to 2021, I can’t imagine him being a guy the WWE has long term plans for.

There are a handful of wrestlers on Smackdown that could do wonders with the IC Title. Daniel Bryan, Ali, Chad Gable And Cesaro come to mind. We will see what the brackets look like Coke Friday.
